Dr. Dimitra Georgiou

Dr. Dimitra Georgiou is a UK-trained Consultant Gynaecologist & Obstetrician and an Advanced Minimally Invasive Gynaecological Surgeon and Sonologist (ultrasound specialist).

Dr. Georgiou underwent undergraduate training at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens before going on to post graduate Obstetrics & Gynaecology training in the UK, where she attended a structured training programme in the specialty of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Leeds University Hospitals and dedicated training in Endometriosis and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery. Following successful completion of specialty memberships exams, she became a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG) in 2016. Dr. Georgiou completed her 7-years specialty training in 2018 acquiring the UK Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT).

During her 13-year UK training, she worked closely with top Gynecological and Gynaecological Oncology Surgeons and gained proficiency in the whole spectrum of Obstetrics & Gynaecology with an emphasis on Endometriosis, Minimally Invasive Surgery and Advanced Gynaecological Ultrasound. In London, UK, she completed a two-year sub-specialty fellowship training program in Endometriosis & Advanced Minimally Invasive Gynaecological Surgery at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital and Advanced Gynaecological Ultrasound at King's Hospital under the primary supervision of Mr Richard Richarson and Miss Jackie Ross, respectively.  Dr Georgiou acquired advanced training ans sub-specialisation (ATSM) in Open & Minimally Invasive (hysteroscopic, laparoscopic & robotic) Gynaecological Surgery, Endometriosis, Advanced Gynaecological Ultrasound (PgCert Med USS - King's College), and Advanced Labour Ward Care.

Dr Georgiou was employed as a Consultant Gynaecologist and Obstetrician with special interest in Endometriosis & Minimally Invasive Surgery at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital (2020) and King's Hospital (2022) in London. She is one of the few Gynaecologists & Obstetricians in Cyprus who has started and completed her specialty training in the United Kingdom and worked as a Consultant at Tertiary Hospitals in London.

Her principal area of clinical practice relates to minimal invasive surgery (robotic/ laparoscopic) for complex benign conditions (endometriosis, fibroids, ovarian cysts, pelvic organ prolapse) and early-stage gynaecological cancers, advanced gynaecological ultrasound and high-risk pregnancies. Working in internationally-recognised centres, Dr Georgiou became an expert in endometriosis excision and fibroid surgery. The skill to perform and interpret her own ultrasounds revolutionised her surgical practice. 

Dr Georgiou has an active research portfolio and has authored more than 15 PubMed indexed scientific papers in peer-reviewed international journals. Shee has delivered numerous presentations in national and international congresses and regularly lectures on various aspects of gynaecological surgery and ultrasound at relevant training courses.
